The Full Story

Why I Started AUT To Be Taught

As a mom of little ones and an avid supporter of knowing what my kids are learning, how they’re learning it, and why it’s important, I have embarked on a journey to provide my children with the most robust and rewarding education that I could. Throughout my teaching career I have always had a passion and strong desire to not only help children grow academically, but also to support them in developing strong skills in communication, social-emotional awareness, vocational skills, entrepreneurship, and mobility and sportsmanship, among other things.

As an Educator of over 20 years, I have had the privilege of teaching and supporting children from ages 3–22, from grades Pre-K–12, and in various in-person and online learning environments including home education, inclusive classrooms, virtual learning, and within my own church community. Not only have I gained insights as a mom, aunt, educator, and church leader, but I am also a student and lifelong learner. My time as a PhD student has helped me to further explore various systems of education and child care and to come to a conclusion about what components are most necessary and effective in helping young, curious children become well-rounded, confident adults with a desire to serve God, love others, and contribute to their communities.

For me, serving others, specifically as an Educator and in youth ministry, is not just a vocation, it’s a calling.

AUT To Be Taught is my answer to God’s call to partner with parents, guardians, families, and others to serve the youth and train them up in the way they should go. In today’s quickly changing climate, it has become increasingly evident that children also need to learn the skills that will enable them to move toward self-sufficiency and entrepreneurship. Vocational skill-building and multicultural learning and inclusive learning experiences are a large component of the program.

Children are encouraged to explore, rewarded for their efforts, and trained to develop the skills and discipline necessary to have a strong work ethic and succeed in their academic and vocational careers.

Our small group, family home setting allows us to provide a more personalized learning experience and is perfect for supporting children who experience anxiety, have safety concerns or special needs, or just need a more intimate and supportive educational environment.

AUT To Be Taught is ideal for parents who are interested in more flexibility in scheduling or curriculum, are seeking a different educational approach or philosophy, or desire to provide their child with a values-based educational experience.

This program incorporates a Christian worldview perspective, where instruction is God-first and student-centered. Children are supported by Learning Coaches who work closely with parents and families to facilitate each child’s learning.

We believe that caring for and educating children is a holistic process, engaging the mind, body, heart, and spirit, where children develop not only academically, but also in character, purpose, and the skills necessary to thrive.

Essentially, we believe that in today’s world, this is the way children AUT To Be Taught.

Mission

At AUT To Be Taught, our mission is to cultivate the whole child—mind, body, heart, and spirit—through Christ-centered, values-based education that empowers children to grow academically, thrive socially and emotionally, and gain practical skills in entrepreneurship, vocational learning, and life. We partner with families to create a nurturing, inclusive, and purpose-driven environment where children are encouraged to explore, serve, and succeed.

Vision

Our vision is to raise a generation of confident, compassionate, and capable young leaders who love God, serve others, and make meaningful contributions to their communities. We envision a world where children are holistically educated, equipped with strong character and skills for self-sufficiency, and inspired to live out their God-given purpose.
